Hello, everyone! Over the last couple of months I taught my very first Beginning Pointed Pen Calligraphy classes here in Ann Arbor, Michigan! I am so lucky to know such amazing local shop owners downtown who are gracious enough to open up their doors for workshops.

The first workshop was hosted by Diana of Thistle & Bess in Kerrytown and was attended by 10 amazing women eager to learn! There was wine, La Croix (obviously, if you know Diana!), and tons of treats from the Tea Haus down the street. We dove right in learning about the tools, how to warm up, and how to use the tools to create the basic strokes of Copperplate Calligraphy. By the end of the night we had made it through most of the miniscules (lower case letters) and everyone went on their way with practice sheets to learn the capital letters and tons of supplies to keep practicing!

It was such a joy to teach this small group the basics of pointed pen and to see how each of them progressed throughout just a two hour class. The difference between their first try and what they walked out with was amazing! Check out all of the beautiful photos below by Cat Carty Buswell. We were lucky to have gorgeous golden hour light that night that poured into the shop creating a little extra magic 🙂

The second workshop was at Rock Paper Scissors on Main Street in Ann Arbor, hosted by Lisa, the shop’s owner. This time we had 23 women attend! It was so fun to see other local shop owners, mothers & daughters, and groups of coworkers (s/o to the ladies of Zingerman’s Cornman Farms!) come to learn together.

Are you interested in learning calligraphy? I would love to have more workshops in the future if the interest is out there! Let me know in the comments or shoot me an e-mail 🙂
